Gateway pages are web pages built to gain very high rankings for specific search terms and refer users to other pages. They typically contain lowly value keyword stuffed content only meant to manipulate search engines. Search engines like Google, however, penalise sites with the use of gateway pages because their navigation tends to leave the user with a very poor experience. Formerly a common practice in the early days of SEOs, the tactic is now considered an aspect of black hat or unethical SEO.
