A mirror site is an exact copy of a website that is hosted at a different location. An organisation may develop a mirror site for all legitimate and illegal purposes. Legitimate use would include creating accessibility to a website in different countries or making the site more available. Mirror sites can, however, also bring about malicious activities, like scraping content from a target site or phishing. Most search engines would try to identify and punish those who created mirror sites for malicious activities.
