Home / Blog / Google Ads Cost in Australia
Google Ads has no fixed price: you bid for each click in an auction. In Australia in 2026 most small-business search clicks cost $2 to $4, with legal, finance and insurance clicks running $6 to $15 or more. What you actually pay inside that range comes down to your competitors, your quality score and how well the account is built. Add a management fee of $500 to $2,000 a month if an agency runs it.

These ranges are what we see across the Australian accounts we run and quote on. They are a starting point for budgeting, not a quote, and your own numbers will depend on your location, your competitors and how well the account is built.
Budget from a keyword tool’s estimate and you will almost always overestimate. Those estimates are built from the top of the auction: they assume aggressive bidding with an average ad and an average landing page. A well-built account, with tightly matched ad groups and a fast, relevant landing page, routinely pays a good deal less per click than the tool predicted. We see it every time we take over an account that was budgeted from estimates alone, and it is why we do not quote tool estimates to clients as though they were prices.
Match type moves the price as much as the keyword does. Broad match reaches the widest audience and charges the most per click for the privilege. Phrase and exact match, aimed at people who have already described what they want, are consistently cheaper per click and tend to convert better. Most accounts we inherit are running broad match on almost everything, which is the single most common reason a budget disappears without producing enquiries.
The more expensive lesson is not what a click costs, it is who you are buying clicks from. Broad match will happily show a web design ad to someone searching for a free website builder, a competitor’s platform, or how to build a site themselves. In our own account, real search terms that triggered ads included wix website, go daddy australia, website builder, free website builder, how to make a website for free, squarespace website and weebly website builder. Not one of those people was ever going to hire an agency.
A large share of any new broad-match campaign’s spend goes exactly there until it is cleaned up. That is not Google behaving badly, it is broad match doing what it is designed to do. It is also why the first month of a new account is mostly reading the search terms report and adding negative keywords, and why a low cost per click means very little on its own.
Google Ads is something we run day to day, not a subject we are writing about from the outside. WebGlobals plans, builds and manages Google and Meta campaigns for Australian businesses including Employment Star, New Sound Hearing and Hearing Point, across recruitment and allied health, where a campaign is judged on a booked appointment or a placement rather than on clicks. Accounts like those stay with an agency only for as long as they keep producing enquiries, which is the most honest test there is. We do not publish client figures without their approval, so if you want to see what a campaign in your industry actually produced, ask on a call and we will take you through a real account.
