How Much Do Facebook Ads Cost in Australia? (2026)

Facebook and Instagram ads in Australia cost roughly $10 to $22 per thousand impressions and about $1 to $1.50 per link click for most advertisers in 2026. The number that decides whether they work is cost per lead, where the Australian median sits near $51. You set the budget and Meta sets the price in an auction, so your creative, your audience and your landing page move the figure far more than the platform does.

How Facebook ads pricing works

Facebook ads cost whatever you decide to spend. You set a daily or lifetime budget, Meta enters your ad into an auction every time someone in your audience opens the app, and the price of showing it depends on how many other advertisers want that same person at that same moment. You are usually charged per thousand impressions, and every other number you care about, cost per click and cost per lead, is that figure divided by how many people acted. That is why Meta ads cost more in Sydney than in Adelaide, more in the weeks before Christmas, more for a 35 to 55 homeowner audience than for teenagers, and more when the creative is dull enough that nobody stops on it.

What Facebook ads actually cost in Australia in 2026

Meta does not publish a country-by-country price list, so every Australian figure comes from third parties aggregating real ad accounts. The table below uses published Australian benchmark data for 2026 rather than our own estimates. Treat it as the range to expect before you start, not a quote.

Figures in AUD, compiled September 2026 from published Australian Meta benchmarks: Superads Australian CPC, CPM and cost per lead datasets, plus a 2026 Australian agency benchmark study covering more than 8,400 ad accounts. Benchmarks are averages across many advertisers and industries; your own account can sit well outside them in either direction.

Why Australian costs move so much

The averages hide how much the Australian market swings. Over the year to June 2026 the median Australian cost per lead moved from about $52 to about $102, close to doubling, and the month-to-month change averaged roughly 36 per cent against about 8 per cent globally. Cost per thousand impressions followed the same pattern, peaking at $21.73 in November 2025 and bottoming at $9.63 in May 2026. Australia is a small auction: when retailers pile in before Christmas or at the end of financial year, there is nowhere for the price to go but up.
Two practical consequences. First, judge a campaign over a month at least, because a fortnight in the wrong fortnight will mislead you. Second, if your offer is not seasonal, the cheapest inventory of the year is usually autumn, not the run-up to Christmas when everyone else is bidding.

What changes the price

Audience. Narrow, in-demand audiences such as homeowners aged 35 to 55 in a wealthy council area cost more per thousand than broad ones. Broad targeting with strong creative is often cheaper per lead.

Objective. Lead and conversion campaigns cost more per impression than awareness campaigns, because Meta is hunting for people likely to act. That is the point of paying more.

Creative. The single biggest lever you control. An ad people stop on earns a better quality ranking and a lower cost per thousand. Real photographs of your team and your work beat stock imagery almost every time.

Season. November and December, and to a lesser extent late June, are the dearest weeks of the Australian year because retail and end-of-financial-year advertisers flood the auction.

Landing page and form. An instant form, or a fast mobile page asking one question, turns more clicks into leads. A slow page throws away clicks you have already paid for and quietly doubles your cost per lead.

Minimum budget for Facebook ads

For a lead campaign we recommend at least $1,000 a month in ad spend, paid directly to Meta. Below that the algorithm rarely gathers the conversions each week that it needs to optimise properly, and you will not have enough data at month end to judge whether the campaign is working or simply unlucky. Brand awareness or a boosted post for an event can run on far less, but that is a different job with different arithmetic, and it should not be measured on leads.

Facebook ads management fees in Australia

If an agency runs the account, budget a management fee on top of ad spend. Across the Australian market we typically see $500 to $1,500 a month for a small-business Meta account. Our Meta and PPC campaign management is $750 a month plus a $750 setup for Meta alone, or $1,200 a month plus $1,200 setup for Meta and Google together, ex GST and separate from ad spend, with an initial three months and then month to month. The setup covers the pixel and Conversions API, audiences, the creative set, the landing page connection and a lead pipeline so every enquiry is attributed and followed up quickly. If you only need posts rather than ads, social media management starts at $200 a month.

Working out what a lead should cost you

Start from the sale, not from the ad. If your average first job is worth $600 with $300 of gross profit, a $40 lead that closes one time in three is a $120 customer acquisition cost, and a good deal. A $15 lead that never answers the phone is not. Set a target cost per lead at no more than a fifth of the gross profit on the first sale, give the campaign a month at the minimum budget, and judge it on booked jobs rather than on clicks. The same arithmetic for search is in Google Ads cost in Australia. For most local businesses the two platforms end up doing different jobs rather than competing: search catches people already looking, Meta creates the demand in the first place.

Who we run Meta campaigns for

Meta advertising is something we run day to day, not a subject we are writing about from the outside. WebGlobals plans, builds and manages Google and Meta campaigns for Australian businesses including Employment Star, New Sound Hearing and Hearing Point, across recruitment and allied health, where a campaign is judged on a booked appointment or a placement rather than on clicks. Accounts like those stay with an agency only for as long as they keep producing enquiries, which is the most honest test there is. We do not publish client figures without their approval, so if you want to see what a campaign in your industry actually produced, ask on a call and we will take you through a real account.

For a small business running lead campaigns we recommend at least $1,000 a month in ad spend, paid directly to Meta, because below that the account rarely gathers enough weekly conversions to optimise. If an agency runs it, add a management fee on top: the Australian market is typically $500 to $1,500 a month, and ours is $750 a month plus a $750 setup for Meta.
Meta publishes no Australian price list. Published 2026 Australian benchmarks put the average cost per link click at about $1.47, with the median nearer $0.98, so half of all clicks cost less than a dollar. Cost per thousand impressions runs about $10 to $22 depending on the category and the month.
The Australian median over the year to June 2026 was about $51, roughly 10 per cent above the global median. Whether that is good depends entirely on what a customer is worth to you. A lead is good value when it costs well under a fifth of the gross profit on the first sale.
We recommend at least $1,000 a month in ad spend on Meta for a lead campaign, paid directly to Meta, so the algorithm sees enough conversions to optimise and you have enough data to judge the results within a month.
Typically $500 to $1,500 a month for a small-business account. We charge $750 a month plus a $750 setup for Meta alone, or $1,200 a month plus $1,200 setup for Meta and Google together, ex GST and separate from ad spend, month to month after an initial three months.
