Link building for a Sydney business in 2026 means earning mentions from sites Google already trusts: consistent local citations, links from suppliers, partners, chambers and sponsorships, local news, and a few earned links from genuinely useful content. Agencies typically charge $100 to $500 per earned link, or include links in retainers from about $1,500 a month. Buying links breaches Google’s spam policies. For suburb-level rankings, twenty good local links beat two hundred poor ones.

Citations first. Google Business Profile, Bing Places, Apple Business Connect and the main Australian directories, plus the two or three specific to your industry. The same business name, address and phone on every one. Twenty to thirty of these are the foundation, and without them nothing else works as well.
Suppliers, partners and clients. The businesses you already work with usually have a partners or stockists page. Ask them. This is the most under-used link source in Sydney.
Chambers, associations and precincts. Local chambers of commerce, industry associations and council business directories. Membership often includes a listing.
Sponsorships. Junior sport, school fetes, community events and local charities. A club’s sponsors page is a relevant local link, and the sponsorship is usually a few hundred dollars you would have considered anyway.
Local news and community sites. New premises, an award, a community initiative or a useful local statistic earns coverage. Give journalists something specific rather than a press release about yourself.
Content worth linking to. A price guide with real numbers, a local statistic nobody else has compiled, a genuinely useful tool. This is the only kind of link building that scales, and it takes about a year to pay off.
